Long Racing Engines performs a number of services on engine blocks.  All block work is done using well maintained,  technologically up to date machines.  Machine work is often a reflection of the equipment used by a shop.  L.R.E. continually updates their machines if a better product becomes available.

All block work is done in house by the professionals at L.R.E.  This work starts with  boring, decking, and honing.  Blocks are bored using a Rottler machine to within .005" of the final size.  This leaves enough material in the cylinders to get the optimal finish with the final honing procedure.  All performance and racing engines are honed using torque plates.  Torque plates are the best way to simulate the stress placed on the block by the heads being properly fastened to the block.  This will lead to better ring seal and ultimately more power.  A finished L.R.E. cylinder will have .0002 or less overall taper.  This precision is achieved by using rigid diamond stones.  Diamond tooling is the latest, best technology available.  We have torque plates available for BBC, SBC, SBC 400, BBF, SBF,4.6/5.4 Ford, LS1, Pontiac, Harley Davidson(4 different bore sizes), and BB Chrysler.

Blocks are decked using a BHJ plate.  This plate allows L.R.E. to indicate the deck by both the block main journals as well as the camshaft.  The result is a perfectly square deck.  Typically, a block is either "0" decked or left in the hole .005 or .010".  Actual deck heights are determined based on the individual application.  A Rottler mill equipped with CBN cutters is used to achieve the best finish available in the market.

Long Racing Engines has the capabilities to align bore and align hone blocks.  By combining both procedures, we are able to provide the customer with a perfectly round bore along with a low RA surface finish.  Boring the block first reduces the amount of timing chain/belt slack often found in blocks that are simply honed.  Again, well maintained, quality machines allow L.R.E. to maintain some of the closest tolerances in the industry.  L.R.E. also installs four bolt caps (splayed and straight) onto any block that has caps available.  After the caps are properly installed, the same boring and honing procedures mentioned above are used.  Long Racing Engines also specializes in the repair of aluminum, KB style hemi block main bores.  This requires the installation of special sleeves into the main bores.  These are then bored and honed back to size.  We have been performing this  service for over 15 years and it is the recommended repair of Keith Black.  Call L.R.E. first for the most reasonable price around for this special repair.

Long Racing Engines also o-rings blocks, clearances for larger stoke crankshafts, and installs bronze lifter bores.  O-ring and clearance work can be performed on any make/model engine.  Bronze lifter bores can be installed into BBC, SBC, and BBF.  Call for prices and other services not mentioned above.
